MastersInCounseling.org is an informational tool for students interested in pursuing a master’s degree in counseling. We’re home to a large directory of accredited colleges and universities that offer counseling degrees. We also provide data and resources about counseling as a profession.
Counseling is a diverse field covering many specialities ranging from marital issues to vocational rehabilitation, and substance abuse to trauma and crisis. We strive to keep our readers informed on what’s happening in the counseling profession through our blog and our podcast.

Our goal is to help you find the right degree program but also to extend resources on careers, specialities, and much more. Our site will help you to locate programs offering accredited degree programs in counseling, research career outlook and salary data, and connect with professional counselors through an industry-managed blog. We also help with requesting program-specific information from accredited schools.
Our guides are well-researched and consistently updated. As the counseling profession evolves, educational standards for licensure evolves, too. That’s why it’s important to stay up-to-date with the latest industry news and best practices as well as continuing education requirements. Timeline (A Short History of Our Site)
- December 2009: MastersInCounseling.org goes live on the Internet to help prospective counseling students find the right degree program and to help build their industry knowledge.
- October 2011: Dr. Barbara LoFrisco joins the team and begins blogging on the MastersInCounseling.org blog. Dr. LoFrisco is a licensed mental health counselor and a licensed marriage and family therapist.
- March 2018: MastersInCounseling.org re-design finally launches, along with new content and updates to many of our useful guides.
About Our Blog
Our blog is maintained by Dr. Barbara LoFrisco, a licensed mental health counselor, licensed marriage and family therapist, and certified sex therapist. Her doctorate is in Counselor Education and Supervision from the University of South Florida, where she is also a Visiting Instructor in the Department of Rehabilitation & Mental Health Counseling. She is passionate about educating and nurturing counseling students and new counselors.
Dr. LoFrisco actively posts on topics related to counseling education and career advice. She’s a great resource for both current and prospective students. Follow Dr. LoFrisco to stay up-to-date on trends and best practices.
About Our Podcast
The Mastering Counseling Podcast, is hosted by Megan Hawksworth, a licensed marriage and family therapist who treats individuals, couples, and families. Megan earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and English from Northwestern University, and a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the Family Institute at Northwestern University.
On each episode of the Mastering Counseling Show, Megan conducts an in-depth interview with a leading therapist or counseling/therapy professional, where they explore the ins and outs of working in a counseling practice, treating clients, and more.
