Host Question: What are the highest paying fields or maybe types of places to work for someone with a masters in counseling degree?
Guest Answer: I would venture to guess more of a corporate type setting, whether it’s like an online for profit University or a highly established mental health clinic through a larger Insurance Corporation or in a hospital setting.
Guest Answer: The private practice, for my clinical perspective, is where the most money is. You get to choose your clients and that could be a lot of different specialty is someone that has a specialty in counseling children and has a certificate in play. Therapy could go into private practice. Someone that has a specialty in addiction counseling could have a private practice. One big area we see, this is even the MFT degree or licensed marriage and family therapist. If you specialize in marriage counseling or couples counseling, there’s always work. There’s always work coming to you in that space. And a lot of private practice clinicians will sit for a panel so they can build to insurance, but some are also self-pay and are charging $350 a session and have clients paying for it. Some other elements of health care hospital. There’s some hospital settings that are very well paid and then in non-clinical settings using the degree to pivot into other kind of talent recruitment roles.
Guest Answer: Marriage counseling is a pretty highly paid career aspect of counseling. School counseling is up there because it is a school of though you kind of get locked into the education pay rates and everyone knows the education systems don’t pay particularly well, but school counselors actually do pretty well in the school system. Hospitals will be pretty far up there, especially if they contain like rehabilitation centers and grief counseling and things like that. Those are probably your top three.
